Cristiano Ronaldo, one of the most followed athletes on social media, has now launched his own YouTube channel called “UR Cristiano.”
The channel was launched on Wednesday and immediately gained over 6 million subscribers. Ronaldo has a massive following, with over 900 million followers across Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), and Instagram.
The channel’s about section simply states: “Welcome to UR Cristiano – the official YouTube channel of Cristiano Ronaldo. SIUUUbscribe!”
On the first day, Ronaldo posted 12 videos, ranging from 400,000 views to over 2.5 million views. The most watched video is a “Mr & Mrs” game between Ronaldo and his long-term partner Georgina Rodriguez.
Other videos include Ronaldo rating one of his own goals for Portugal, a comparison of his free-kicks with his son’s, and a clip from a press conference about overcoming adversity. The videos are all relatively short, mostly under 3 minutes.
While YouTube is still an underutilized platform in football, some other high-profile players like Manchester United’s Ella Toone and retired goalkeeper Ben Foster have started their own channels.
As for Ronaldo’s playing career, he is currently under contract with Saudi club Al Nassr until the end of the 2024/25 season. After struggling at the recent Euro 2024, the veteran forward will celebrate his 40th birthday in early 2025.
